Planning a Vacation? Travel the World for Free, Try a Home Exchange

What is a Home Exchange you ask? It is the latest way to travel the world and make new life long friends, all while saving the money you would normally spend on a hotel room.

The concept is simple. You like to vacation in new destinations weather these are exotic, quaint, remote, or filled with attractions. So does everyone else. So what if someone could stay at your home while you stayed at theirs. Even better what if you have a second home, or are away or business from you primary home and want to save up credits for your home exchange vacation later on – a non-simultaneous exchange? You can do that too. So that way if you have a small vacation condo you can exchange this out several times and save up credits for a large villa in Paris when you want to take your vacation. This is a unique concept that allows home exchange members to trade credits amongst themselves.

Why Home Exchange.

1. A unique local experience. You get to live like a local, meet neighbors and friends and eat at local favorites.

2. Meet new Friends When making a home exchange you get to know about the other family, share interests and hobbies, learn about the area and plan a unique vacation.

3. Money. You can save a great deal by doing home exchanges.

Here is an estimation of the cost of a 3 week vacation for a family of 4 :

COSTS HOTEL HOME EXCHANGE

Flight $3600 $ 3600

Hotel $2200 $0

Car $1300 $0

Food $2600 $1100

TOTAL $9700 vs $4700

You can also save on Internet, have bikes to ride and DVD’s to watch for the kids and lots more savings. We have made life long friends and have gotten to travel and see things from the point of view of the locals, all over the world.I hope this has spared your interest in making a home exchange, or at least to open your eyes to a new way to travel and see the world.

Steve Griswold loves to explore new places with his wife and daughter. Home Exchange has made this possible. He is an expert on the subject of Home Exchange Travel.

New York Travel Guides

The Big Apple, the city that never sleeps, New York, New York, what a wonderful town! Call it what you will, there’s no disputing New York is one amazing place. And there’s a wealth of information available on what to do and see in New York, so I’ve selected the best bits in this essential travel guide to New York City.

More than eight million people from every nation on earth live in the Five Boroughs of Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and Staten Island, and New York City is safer, cleaner, friendlier, richer and more stylish than ever before.

It goes without saying really, but a it would be crime to miss out on Central Park, whatever the length of your trip. If you are lucky, your first view will be from the air as you fly into the city, where you can really appreciate this 843-acre green oasis of peace and quiet in this vast urbania. Join the locals in a jog, some in-line skating or take a picnic and watch the world go by. There are things to do in winter when the lush green park is transformed into a white blank canvas, where ice skating and cross country skiing combine with a midnight run on New Year’s Eve.

For unrivalled views and an iconic trip it’s got to be a visit to New York’s skyline’s most famous skyscraper – the Empire State Building. High-speed automatic elevators take you up to the 86th floor observatory 1,050 ft (320 m) high in the sky. It’s worth paying a bit more for the audio tour as there isn’t much information up top. Keep an eye on the tower at night; it might just surprise you, as the colours of the lights are changed regularly.

Take a boat out to Liberty Island in New York Harbour and pay a visit to the Statue of Liberty – the original first lady, and the ultimate symbol of New York. You would be surprised how many locals haven’t done this. To avoid lots of waiting around book your tickets ahead and try and make it in the morning when there are less people about.

Take a walk across the historic and fascinating Brooklyn Bridge. Manhattan has five major bridges linking the island to the mainland, but the Brooklyn is the most famous and really worth a visit just to take in the fantastic views of Downtown Manhattan and New York Harbour.

No trip to New York would be complete without a spot of retail therapy, and even if you haven’t the budget to cover it, just go and marvel at Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdales or Macy’s, to name drop but a few. Fifth Avenue is New York City’s must-see shopping destination, filled with a mix of upscale boutiques, well-known chains, and attractions such as the Rockefeller Centre and St. Patrick’s Cathedral, if you can only do one shopping street in New York, make it this one.

If you’re planning a trip to New York, then you’ll probably need some help narrowing down all the things there are in this, the world’s capital – New York travel guides are the best way to do this.

Travel The World – Experience The Places That Other Tourists Do Not Know About Yet

For many younger people taking a gap year and traveling the world is seen as their last chance to experience true freedom before they enter the big hard world of corporate pressure or before starting a few hard years of studying at university. For many of us in the world our holidays amount to two weeks in the sun in the summer and the odd weekend away here and there if we are lucky or until we have kids of our own, so what is the big deal about traveling the world for a year and what is the best way to spend your time when seeing the world?

As we all know the world is a much smaller place now than it was twenty years ago, cheap airlines, the internet and improvements in communication have made all four corners of the world accessible to all. Even the remotest of places on earth are accessible if you are determined enough to get to them opening up a totally new world of experiences to the hardy traveler.

But even within Europe there are placed that for many years in the past have been totally out of bounds to travelers and now with the break up of the former Soviet states many countries are welcoming tourists to their shores as they are seen as a vital part of their economy. To many of the ex Soviet countries tourism is still in its infancy so it is still possible to get to see the real side of the country rather than the commercialized side that we usually get to see when in the more popular tourist destinations. The benefits of this are numerous, you get to see totally wonderful architecture that was constructed for the country rather than for the tourist, you get to meet people that are still inquisitive with tourists rather than seeing them as a way to make a fast buck and finally you will generally find that these countries are cheaper than may other tourist hotspots as at present they are grateful for the increase in revenue that tourists bring to them.

This will not always be the case though so while you can you would be advised to take the opportunity to take the time to visit countries such as Hungary, Romania, Estonia, Latvia and Bulgaria before tourism becomes a way of life for the inhabitants. You may think that Bulgaria is a strange place to visit in the context of new tourism but for much of the land tourism is a relatively new phenomenon as most tourists who do visit the country tend to stay at the beach resorts on the East coast and venture no further a field. Those who do take the time to travel Bulgaria will find a country that has a varied landscape of mountains and lakes that in the winter yield great skiing conditions and in the summer months are great for climbers and walkers. Those who do travel Bulgaria [] are always impressed by what they find, and this is the same with so many of the Balkan states, countries with beautiful untouched countryside that offers a wonderful holiday to anyone who would like to do something a little different.

From these countries it is now possible to enter Russia, as long as you have the correct paperwork, and continue your traveling right the way across Europe and into Asia to visit some truly untouched countries that are as welcoming as they are beautiful. This is the type of traveling that you are unlikely to get another chance in life to replicate so if and when you get the opportunity you would be wise to take it and have memories that will last a lifetime of countries that are totally unspoilt. This has got to be a better option than traveling around the same old tourist spots that everyone else will be doing.

Travel the World For Free As a Travel Writer!

Travel writing is the prefect way for one to travel and get paid for it! And now, doesn’t that sound like something we could all do? If you can write about a memorable experience, give a review of a hotel or restaurant, then you too can be a travel writer.

And on top of being paid, and getting to travel, it’s also the perfect way to remember your amazing memories. While taking pictures is nice in the long run, writing, is the true way to capture every feeling and sensation while you are traveling.

I for one have many experiences that I myself have written down and every time I go back and read them it gives me a sense of being back there again. And the best thing about travel writing, as I said before, is that you are paid to travel!! That means no more waiting around for that extra income so you can travel the world – travel the world right now!

Upgraded flights, upgraded hotels, tickets to sold out shows, VIP treatment wherever you go, if this sounds like the path for you, then travel writing can get you there. Or, if you’re more like me, and enjoy the more adventurous touring of travel, travel writing can get you there as well! Actually, I kind of think my way of traveling can give some pretty interesting stories. I remember sleeping on ferries and trains. Sharing food with locals, and even partaking in a friendly drink at the town’s pub. But whatever way you choose to travel, it’s all up to you – just go for it!

There really is no better feeling in the world then to be out there traveling a new road you have not been down before. There’s something so freeing when you realize that the only worry for the day will be which to train to take, and to what destination, and whether you’d like to dine in St. Mark’s Square or along the Venice canals. It truly is the best experience one can take in life. It’s the adventure that allows us all to realize that we’re still living – that we really are experiencing all this world has to offer!

As I know you do, I too have many stories to share from my travels, and can’t wait to see what new ones I’ll have in the future. Travel writing is the perfect way to allow me to travel now, get paid, and also have a documented memory of where I’ve been in this world. It’s like how the ancient Greeks so desperately wanted to be remembered in life… and I mean, don’t we all? This is the perfect way to let others know of all that life has offered you.

How to Travel the World in Cheap

The truth is that most people like to travel. This is because that the unknown generally thrills you. With the broad access to information that we currently have, it’s easy to browse pictures of beautiful countries, which sparks the desire to travel even more. However, unfortunately this is a rather expensive pleasure. Therefore, not everyone can afford it. Nevertheless, there are some tips that would help you travel a lot cheaper and in some cases for free.

1. Swap homes

As a matter of fact, home swapping is rapidly becoming a trend and you can even find this method on some of the most popular travel websites. The fact is that the majority of travel expenses go towards accommodations. Therefore, when you swap your home with other fellow travelers you eliminate this particular line of expenses and your trip becomes much cheaper. It also has perks like a fully equipped kitchen, proper bathrooms, and things that you won’t find in a cheap hotel.

2. Carpool

This is a term that relates to numerous people traveling within the same vehicle. For instance, you can look for someone who travels in the same direction and you can split the expenses in half. As you can imagine, the more people you get the less you are going to pay for the travel.

3. Hitchhike

This is an old-fashioned method of traveling for free. Basically, what you want to do is try and stop people on the road and get them to drive you towards the direction they are heading. It’s a great way to meet new local people and it’s completely free, even though some hitchhikers offer some money in exchange for the favor.

4. Become a crew member of a cruise ship

This is a way not only to travel for free but to earn a few bucks as well. Enjoy visiting a wide variety of countries on a regular basis and earn money while doing it. Of course, there are some downsides – you will obviously have to work so there might not be enough time for sightseeing but generally crew members get some days off when the ship reaches its destination. This should be the best time for you to look around.

5. Use budget airlines

A few years ago, several airlines were created that offer incredibly low rates for their tickets. This is mainly due to the fact that you will be flying with almost no additional comfort but, after all, your main purpose is to see the world, not to fly in first class airplanes.

All in all, there are a wide variety of things that you could do if you want to travel the world cheap. Not every solution is incredibly expensive and if you use a combination of different tricks you can end up with a really affordable trip. Do take these into consideration especially if you want to save up some money for sightseeing.
